One of the reasons why I love houses and interior design is the lives I imagine I would have in them. Like this romantic Gaudi inspired 3 bedroom luxury apartment in the exclusive Eixample district of Barcelona where I would live with my (imaginary) industrial magnate husband, 3 impeccably turned out children and one slobbery dog. This fantasy does not come cheap. It has been listed with Sotheby’s (that alone should tell me, darling… it’ll never happen…lol) for £15 million and comes with its own staff apartment, rooftop terrace and did I mention… a spa.
Gaudi is a Spanish architect who was very influential in the late 1800s, especially in Barcelona. His style is very ornate, gothic and elaborate. if you are not familiar with his work, it’s worth checking out. To me it’s always like stepping into a fairytale.
Beautiful building facade.
I know this is only the communal stairway, but doesn’t it take your breath away? Beautiful panelling on the walls.
This is the entry hallway where I would serve my husband and his friends steaming cups of espresso. Why they would be in the entry hallway and why I have morphed into a 50s housewife, I don’t know, but that’s how my mind works when I see this picture. I love all the intricate detail in this room.
The main living room has stunning floor to ceiling windows and an eclectic interior. This is where I would sit in the evenings with my glass of red wine admiring the chandelier. Yes, I am also a magpie. Pay attention to the ceiling, that’s the Gaudi I was talking about.
The main dining room has an art deco feel and a fabulous bay window.
These people seem to store all sorts of crystal and china in this glamorous bar area, but believe me, if I lived here, this would be floor to ceiling champagne.
This, ladies and gents is the bathroom. Oh, and I just thought I had stepped into a fairytale!
The library/office has a beautiful parquet floor and a quiet place to work in very glamorous surroundings on my blog. Yes, my 50s housewife persona also needs to have a blog.
Did I mention we have upstairs? This is the casual family area where we have suppers, watch TV and I hide away with my book away from the sun in the cool shade.
When my girlfriends visit, this is where we’ll enjoy our coffee and gossip. Such a luxury to have such a vast outside space in the middle of the city!
