Elvis & the Birth of Rock’n'Roll
On January 1st 1956 Elvis Presley woke up as a virtual unknown, and on December 31st as midnight approached, he was an international sensation, “Elvis The Pelvis” with millions of album sales and a 7 year movie deal in his back pocket. So needless to say, 1956 was the year that created Elvis and gave us Rock’n'Roll. In March 1956 RCA Records realised they do not have any candid shots of their burgeoning superstar to meet the media demand so they hired a young photographer by the name of Alfred Wertheimer to do the job. These shots are included in Elvis & the Birth of Rock and Roll, a lavish limited-edition art book to be published in April. These are intimate and personal portraits of a young man standing on the edge of greatness.
