Dsquared2@Milan Fashion Week
If you missed Dancing On The Edge, a dazzling BBC 2 drama about a black jazz band in 1930s London, you seriously missed out. The 5-part series came to an explosive end on Monday night and I miss the sophisticated glamour of the jazz age already. The series was full of dancing in underground clubs, parties in stately homes, ballrooms full of eccentrics and more money that you could throw a stick at. And oh yeah, a murder. And the clothes. Oh, how I loved the clothes. The ravishing couture dresses, the jackets cut just so and the accessories that made the woman. Costume Designer Lindsay Pugh had collected most of the costumes from vintage shops, sourcing bits and pieces from around the country. Canadian twins Dean and Dan Caten, collectively known as Dsquared2, stepped right into my Dancing On The Edge romance with their Milan Fashion Week runway show, parading models in well-tailored suits, double bow ties and colourful fedoras on the catwalk. Their modern take on the bygone glamour was accessorized with chunky double brooches and pops of neon colour, it really looked like the 30s…today. Genius! And so, so stunning. I would literally wear the entire collection. I have pulled together a few looks from their pre-fall and fall/winter 2013 collections, which I thought were especially reminiscent of the Dancing On The Edge look and paired them with screenshots from the series. It really was the era of the ultimate glitz, glamour and sophistication, wouldn’t you agree?

It was! And it was so funny to find a contemporary designer who was basically doing the exact same style!
